France”s colonial empire from the 1930s to the moment of Algerian independence in 1962, examining the major episodes of French decolonisation in Indochina, sub-Saharan Africa and Algeria. The aims of the course are: to examine the processes and impact of colonialism and decolonisation in the case of the French empire; and to explore the different approaches which may be adopted in studying France”s and her former colonies” traumatic and in many ways still unfinished decolonisation.
