Intersectionality

Crenshaw’s article broke new ground by brilliantly illustrating the interconnectedness of oppressions and their importance for identity politics. She coined the term “intersectionality” which we will use often. Watch the lecture “Intersection of Race and Gender” then review the Power & Privilege Definitions sheet, the GLSEN material and the readings on Intersectionality. Also, look back at the Rubin’s diagram from the Minnucci article (pg96) that describes power and privilege. What do you make of all these approaches to raising awareness of how identity and location determine our experience of power in various settings?
