Reflective Essay Main

Deferral / Referral Reflective Essay Assessment 3 Briefing The deadline is Monday 11th July 2016 at 1:00pm. Submission: through Turnitin on Blackboard The word count: 1500 +/- 10%. The word count excludes the title page, the Reference list at the end of the essay and the appendices. Assessment format: Reflective essay written in the first person. Assessment task: To write this assignment you are required to analyse the learning experience that you have received by participating in one or two of the following assessments activities: 1. Presentation; 2. Debate; 3. Other group activities. Literature Sources You are required to use the following essential literature sources to get the mark above 69%: Gallagher, K. (2013). Skills Development for Business and Management Students. Study and Employability. Chapter 4. Oxford: Oxford University Press. In addition to the above literature source it is expected that students will also consult other reliable sources (e.g. academic journal articles and books) for their work. Do not use Wikipedia, Businessballs.com and other unreliable Internet sources. They will not be counted as appropriate references. A minimum of eight relevant academic sources is expected to be referenced in the text and listed in full at the end of the essay for any coursework with a first grade mark. Your mark will be capped at 69% if you use 7 or fewer references even if your analysis is very good. Make sure that you create a Reference list at the end of the essay and not a Bibliography. In other words all literature sources stated in the Reference list at the end of the essay should be quoted in text. Also all sources on the Reference list must be used in the text. As a guideline we suggest for you to use two references in each paragraph but not necessarily in the introductory and concluding paragraphs. Reflective essay marking criteria 30% Research and Referencing Please make sure that you use Harvard Referencing system. Harvard referencing system consists of two parts: references in the text and references at the end of the text. We will look at how well and how appropriately you select, use and reference the theories in your essay and how well the theories you choose support your arguments. Use as many appropriate theories (references) as possible to support your arguments. Use only reliable and academic literature sources. 70% Content, structure and presentation Content: Your reflective essay should be based on Honey and Mumford’s Learning Styles theory (Gallagher, 2013). The focus of this reflection should be on: 1. Teamwork (we suggest that you use Tuckman’s and / or Belbin’s theories to develop arguments about your teamwork); 2. Your learning style according to Honey and Mumford’s Learning Styles theory (explain clearly and support your conclusions with arguments as to whether your learning style is balanced or not; and which style(s) is (are) your most preferable). Structure: Your essay should demonstrate a flowing logic and a depth of argument. We will look at the structure of the whole essay and the structuring of separate paragraphs and sentences. Your introductory paragraph should follow general academic guidelines. You need to clearly explain what are the purpose and the structure of your essay. In other words introduce your reflective essay clearly (‘say what you are going to say’). The main body of your essay should explain one or two learning cycles according to Kolb’s or Honey and Mumford’s theories. Other theories are advised to be used to support your reflective analysis. Your concluding paragraph should emphasise the main ideas of your essay and how you have addressed the purpose of this assignment. Do not simply summarise all of the points in your essay. You will need to explain your learning style clearly in the concluding paragraph. Presentation: Make sure that your essay looks professional. Include page numbers. Make sure that your font is consistent. Use Arial 12 or a similar font. The spacing between the lines should be 1.5 or 2 lines. Leave a bigger margin on the right (3cm or more) to allow the markers to write comments in Turnitin. Avoid colloquial language. Make sure that your title page looks professional. I will attach the powerpoint we had done but just make everything up about the team work etc, there was 5 of us participating Appendix 1. Title Page Example Your title page does not have to look exactly like the one below but all of the information presented in this example title page should be included in your title page.
