This is a template assignment; you may not type in directly on it, but follow the instructions on the template to answer each of the questions specifically. This assignment continues till module 3. Therefore, do the module one which is due this Friday, after that, you will continue with the rest of the module. Please follow instructions on the template, type on different sheet in order to keep track of paper limit. Also read instructions below. I will download the template instructions later. For the survey: My zip code is 76010, Arlington, Texas or you may use a zip code of your choice, please write this assignment as if I’m the one that did the interview survey. Please check for plagiarism for it is a big issue in my school. • The Windshield Survey is a subjective assessment of the community you have selected from a zip code. • You will report on what you see. • Do not use statistical data references for your chosen community. • When defining your borders of your Windshield Survey, remember someone should be able to follow the directions to your area, as well as, find it on a map. • Inform the persons you interview that the information they share will be treated as confidential. Use only the informant’s initials. Do not use their full name in your paper. • Avoid giving your personal opinion about your observations or interviews. • Write objectively in the third person. For example, avoid writing: “I think that these residents are in poverty because they are sitting around the community grocery store at 3:00pm instead of working.” Instead, you may write: “Several persons were observed sitting around the community grocery store at 3:00pm. They appear to be residents of this impoverished area and seem to be unemployed.” • Reference all informant interviews with correct personal communications in-text citations. Follow APA guidelines. • Do not start a sentence with numerals. Spell-out the numerals. For example, it is incorrect to write: “25% of the residents appear to be between the ages of 20 to 40 years.” Instead, write: “Twenty-five percent of the residents appear to be between the ages of 20 to 40 years.” • Numerals are used to refer to numbers ten and above. Spell-out any number 0-9. • Avoid writing long sentences. Collect your thoughts, and write several short sentences to get your message across as you develop your paragraphs. • Plagiarism of any type is not acceptable and will result in an academic dishonesty referral to the Office of Student Conduct. Directions Locate a community focal/starting point (i.e. neighborhood, church, clinic, school, etc) in the city or county where you live. Once you select a focal or starting point, you will conduct a survey of the community surrounding the site. Specifically, you will survey a 10-block radius of the facility – 10 blocks north, 10 blocks south, 10 blocks east, and 10 blocks west. If something is not within the area of the community you are surveying (i.e. Hospital), note such and state how far away it is and how people will access it. If you do not see something within the community (i.e. homeless people) note no homeless persons were observed. Additionally, you will survey two community members about their perceptions of the 2 health and 1 safety needs/issues and 2 strengths of their community. APA focus for this paper: in-text citation of personal commutation, objective writing (avoid biased language), formal writing (avoid use of contractions, numbers, etc) and sentence structure, grammar and flow. Windshield Survey Considerations In order to do this assignment, you must put aside prior knowledge about your community and gather information as if you were observing places and things for the first time. You will be reporting on only those things you observe through the windshield. Use the information found in the Instruction document to complete this assignment to guide this observation experience. • Use a map of your county to decide what areas you will include in the windshield survey. • Use the attached assignment document to create a list of things to observe. • It is recommended that you request someone else to drive you. This will allow you to focus your attention on what you are observing. • Do not put yourself in danger. If at any point, you feel at risk or threatened, leave the area immediately. Your safety is of utmost importance. • While driving through the various regions, keep detailed notes about what you observe including the different kinds of buildings, businesses, service agencies, and recreational spaces. • Compare and contrast areas by looking at the road conditions, types of housing, people on the streets, rural or urban in nature, etc. • You will complete the tables included in the assignment document with the information that you locate. Your final report should summarize what you find in area you survey. When the assignment is completed then you will submit it to your faculty member for review using the Assignment tool.
