Thesis-driven, MLA formatted essay considering T Clutch Fleischman’s poem “Twice” in conversation with Jacques Lacan’s essay “The Mirror Stage as Formative of the I Function as Revealed in Psychoanalytic Experience.”

A five-page, thesis-driven, MLA formatted essay considering T Clutch Fleischman’s poem “Twice” in conversation with Jacques Lacan’s essay “The Mirror Stage as Formative of the I Function as Revealed in Psychoanalytic Experience.” As you read these texts, you may find one of three things: (A) Lacan has certain ideas about how identity is formed/developed/secured/seem by us/seen by others in relationship with the mirror that DO seem to be reflected (excuse the pun!:) in the creative text you choose; (B) Lacan has certain ideas about how identity is formed/developed/secured/seen by us/seen by others in relationship with the mirror, but the creative text uses different ideas/assumptions about our relationship to our reflected image; or (C) a mixture of (A) and (B). In your essay, you’ll want to present these findings to your reader, which also means that you’ll have to explain the Lacanian ideas you’ve chosen to focus on, and quote from both texts to support your observations. Just as importantly, you’ll need to let your reader know what you think of what you’ve observed: If Lacan’s ideas ARE used in the story or poem, has the imaginative work—-in the way that fiction asks us to try on others’ lives, to feel what those characters feel–contributed to the sense that Lacan might be right? Or if his ideas ARE used, are you unconvinced, even after you’ve now experienced those ideas in an imaginative as well as theoretical text? If Woolf or Fleischmann use different ideas (or see the mirror differently), are their ideas more or less persuasive? HINT: This is a thesis-driven essay, which means that you identify in one sentence what you’re going to “prove” to your reader. That includes proving that your evaluation is a good one, so do include that in your thesis statement! Feel free to use internet summaries and analysis of both texts. But both are relatively short, especially Fiechman’s Poem. I can send you copies of both texts mentioned in my instructions!
