But you should also think about culture and society in general, considering things like politics, societal structure, the treatment of certain populations (women, foreigners, soldiers, leaders, etc.), and even religion. Really dig deep into these topics and use both research from the textbook, as well as your own personal thoughts and observations, to discuss the importance of the Classical cultures and how you personally still see their influence today. Be as specific as possible! 3.) Write your conclusion paragraph. This is where you will wrap up your main topic, discuss anything you learned, and really drive home the point you’re trying to make in regards to why the Greeks and the Romans are so important to our cultural history. Using Research & Citing Your Sources 1.) You must use the textbook as a required source for this essay! 2.) The information you use from research must be written in your own words ““ no exact quotes or word-for-word copying is allowed. 3.) Whenever you use information that you learned from the textbook within your writing, you must properly cite the location of that information within your writing with an in-text citation. In-text citations are placed at the end of the sentence which uses that information, but before the period (Sayre 104). ? Like this! The citation should include the last name of the author (Sayre), and must also include the page number upon which that specific information was found. 4.) You will also be including a full MLA citation for the textbook in the works cited page at the end of your essay document. MLA citations for textbooks should be formatted as follows: [Last Name of Author], [First Name of Author]. [Title of Textbook]. [Edition]. [City of Publication]: [Name of Publisher], [Year of Publication]. Print. All of this information can be easily found in the publication information at the beginning of the textbook. You will obviously be removing the brackets [ ] in your citation, but the rest of the formatting, including the punctuation, should be followed exactly. Please also note the hanging indention. The “Print” at the end of the citation simply notes what kind of a source this is ““ it’s a printed source.
