It must be at least 750 words long, word-processed and double-spaced, saved as a Microsoft Word document, and submitted to me at kargbo_sorie@yahoo.com electronically as an e-mail attachment by 5 pm on the 10th. You must write a formal outline and submit it as well as the paper. Grammar, spelling, and overall neatness will certainly affect your final grade on the paper, so be sure to write carefully and allow yourself time to proofread and correct your paper before turning it in. Filename: YourNameWhyIDid.docx In the paper, you will explain Why I (that means you) Did Something by including a full analysis of all the good reasons why you did the thing in question. You will choose a specific audience to address in the paper, based on the subject matter. For example, you might write your paper explaining how and why you chose a certain career or college, so your audience would be a potential employer or a college admissions officer. I recommend that you write about a real situation from your own life that you have actually experienced in the past–to make the assignment easier. First you must explain what you did. Then explain why you took those actions rather than some other choice. Don’t fall into the trap of describing only what happened. Your assignment is to describe what happened as well as to explain it so that even someone who doesn’t know you can understand your actions. You must defend your action and explain why it was the right thing to do at the time. Also, note that I do not want to know any truly private details of your sexual or financial life, nor would that information be appropriate for this or any other college writing assignment. At the top of the paper, you must identify your intended audience. Direct the explanation to that audience, but do not identify the person or persons by name. Use the kind of reasoning that will be appropriate to that audience, but don’t forget that I too am your audience, and all the same rules about appropriate language (no profanity, no slang, no jargon, etc) discussed in class apply to this paper (and all others).
